Oocyte Donation

Oocyte donation is used to achieve pregnancy in women whose oocytes have been timely or prematurely depleted. Other indications of oocyte donation include failure of previous IVF treatments due to poor embryo quality and women who are carriers of balanced transloacations who failed to conceive despite the application of preimplantation genetic diagnosis.

Who can benefit from oocyte donation?

• Women with failed ovaries secondary to chemotherapy or radiotherapy
• Women at their menopausal period due to advanced age

Sperm Donation

What is sperm donation?
Sperm donation is applied in couples in which there is no sperm in the ejaculate and sperm cannot be obtained by surgical means (PESA, TESE). These conditions may be either congenital or acquied.
How should the application be in sperm donation?
Frozen and quaratined sperm are used for sperm donation, Sperm samples are imported form sperm banks in USA and Denmark. Only sperm with a known pedigree are used. All samples are devoid of infections

Oocyte Pick-up (OPU)

OPU is ultrasound guided transvaginal follicle aspiration performed under mild sedation or general anesthesia. For the procedure, a transvaginal probe is inserted to the vagina, and a needle is used under the guidance of the probe to aspirate the fluid filled follicles. This fluid is then examined under microscope to isolate the oocytes.

Screening Tests Applied to Oocyte Donors

1. Completion and signature of the donor form
2. Gynecological and psychologic evaluation
3. Laboratory tests
• Blood group
• HIV Antibody
• Hepatitis B and C surface antigens
• Syphilisis - VDRL
• Rubella IgG

4. Cultures for gonorrhea, chlamydia, ureaplasma and mycoplasma.
5. Screening for Thalassemia and Sickle cell anemia. Furhter screening is performed according to the ethnicity of the donor

Source of Oocytes Donated

Oocytes can be obtained either from known or anonymous donors

Known donor:
Any patient who desires to obtain oocytes from a known donor should seek a woman between 26 and 30 with no known medical or genetic problems. Screening tests performed to the donor are standardized and applied according to the guidelines published by ESHRE and ASRM.

Anonymous donor:
When the donor is anonymous, both the identities of donor and recipient are kept discreet. Any woman who applies to the anonymous donor program is first evaluated physically and psychologically. Presence of any medical, genetic or transmissable diseases are be discarded. A donor should be a healthy woman between the ages of 20 and 30 preferably with children.

Matching of physical properties

Physical properties of oocyte donor such as blood group, complexion, eye color, and hair color should be similar to the parents. Ethnicity and other physical properties are also considered. Donor pool of Girne World IVF center is wide enough to respond patients’ all desires.

Tests Applied to couples who will undergo oocyte donation.

1. The couple should be evaluated and all medical records should be reviewed.
2. Woman should undergo a detailed gynecological examination.
3. Woman should undergo the following tests: rubella, blood group, HIV, hepatitis B and C surface antigens, syphilisis and cultures for CMV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, ureaplasma and mycoplasma.
4. Hysterosalpingography or hysteroscopy to evaluate the endometrial cavity (if needed)
5. Man should undergo following tests: blood group, HIV, hepatitis B and C surface antigens.

How To Become An Oocyte Donor?

We are grateful for your interest to our oocyte donation program. If you want to become an oocyte donor, please fill and send our application form. After your application, if you are decided to be convenient, you will be noticed either by an e-mail or a phone call in 48 hours.

For medical reasons, we can not accept women older than 30 and women who weigh > 80 kilograms to our program. If you do not meet the criteria, please do not continue the application process.
