Infertility is defined as failure to conceive after 1 year of unprotected sexual intercourse. Younger patients may be given a longer period. If female age is > 35 or when there is a positive history that may be related to infertility either diagnostic procedures might be initiated earlier.

In order to achieve pregnancy the couple should have sexual intercourse at least once a week . Less frequent intercourse decreases the chance of obtaining pregnancy. Ideal is 2 to 3 times a week.
